I'm listing a KBB Chesterfield pipe on eBay today:

In another message on this forum I found this information:

"As far as I have gathered the CPF brand was phased out sometime around 1915."

My pipe says KBB Chesterfield on the shank and C.P.F. Chesterfield on the stem. Pretty large pipe, about 9 inches. French Briar. Nickel Plate band with the KBB in a shamrock stamped on it.

Can anyone provide me with a reasonable date for this pipe?

Thanks,

Andy

My dates would be 1905 to 1920.  A trademark registered by KB&B for Chesterfield says Chesterfield was first used on their pipes in 1905.  So, 1905 would be the earliest possible use.  A  trademark registration to KB&B for CPF is dated 1917.  So one could assume the trademark was still in use at that time.  When CPF was discontinued no one really seems to know.  I used 1920 as an arbitrary date.  I haven't found any renewals or new registrations for CPF after 1917.

Same here, stuff like that pops up pretty often, I have a couple myself, It was most likely KBB using up the old CPF stuff

If CPF was ever more than just a trademarked stamping (and that's a whole other discussion), that clearly wasn't the case by the end.

I'm not sure yet when that "end" was, but I think Bill's on the right track since I know advertisements for Panama's with the CPF stamp continued at least until the fall of 1919, and very possibly later.

Recently saw a Chesterfield ad in the United States Tobacco Journal on Googlebooks with KB&B and CPF logos in it dated 1918.

Found the pub. I was thinking of.  Lots of WDC and Redmanol ads in there too.
The Panama Canal pipe had an aluminum inner tube!
